Apply for an Audition

Open Days

Our students often mention that the predominant reason as to why they chose to train with us, was the familial and friendly atmosphere that they experienced at an open day or their audition. It is somewhat difficult to emulate D&Bs sense of community through an online format, but in order to best represent the schools welcoming and nourishing  atmosphere, we are pleased to be launching our ‘Online Open Day‘.

We normally hold in person open days throughout the year, where we give prospective students and their families the chance to come into the studios and watch classes in progress. Following an introduction to our principals, we allocate a student to each visitor to give a guided tour around the facilities and classes. The benefit of having a student guide means that you can ask any questions you have to the student, before being brought back to reception where our course co-ordinator is on hand to offer any further information.

Our upcoming open days are as follows:

  • 7th May 2021

To book a place on an open day, please click here. We will be in touch to confirm your appointment on receipt of your application.

College Experience Days

Every term we hold a college experience day, given prospective students aged 14-18, the chance to come along and experience a day at the college. With a day rammed full of classes with our wonderful faculty, it’s a great chance to fully experience what it would be like to train with us. The cost of the day is £55.00. Recent experience days have included classes with Carrie-Anne Ingrouille in commercial jazz, Jo Goodwin for musical theatre jazz, Dayle Hodge for theatre acting, Ben Rawlings for screen acting, Genevieve Nicole for lyrical jazz and Paul Morrissey for ensemble singing and singing technique. We also bring in current students to perform something that they’ve been working on. The day roughly runs from 8:00am- 4:45pm- but times will be confirmed closer to the event.

Our upcoming experience days are:

  • Sunday 2nd May 2022- now fully booked but you can join the waiting list
  • Sunday 11th July 2021

If you would like to book in for one of these days, please call the office to pay for your place on 02086988880.

You will need to fill in the form below. Then you will be contacted over the phone to confirm some further details. Following that call you will receive written confirmation by email of all of your audition details.

  • What do I need to prepare for my audition if it is in person?

To audition for D&B School of Performing Arts, applicants will be expected to take part in a technical dance class as well as a commercial jazz class. They would also need to prepare two contrasting songs with sheet music (no longer than 2mins) and a monologue (no longer than 2mins). They would then be interviewed by the Principals to assess their suitability to take on the training. All applicants will hear within one week whether they have been offered a place, invited back for a recall, or declined entry.

  • What do I need to prepare for my audition if it is online?

To audition for D&B School of Performing Arts, applicants will be sent a recorded dance class which they would need to take part and film certain aspects including technical exercises and two short routines. There will be live zoom classes to give additional support and guidance throughout the year so that you can finesse before you send in your tapes.

You would be asked to record yourself singing a musical theatre song with backing track (We may ask you to send a further tape of a contrasting song, if you would like to submit two to begin with please do)

You will asked to submit a video of you performing a contemporary monologue- ideally no longer than 2 mins.

  • What if I haven’t trained in one of the subjects?

Our students come to us with a range of abilities and training. Although it is advantageous to have trained across the areas of dance, singing and acting, many of our students had received little or no training in one or more areas prior to their auditions. Please don’t be put off if you have not taken a ballet class before, or are not a confident singer. We are looking for potential and students that we feel could really develop under our guidance and training. If you would like to come along to part time classes to aid your confidence before your audition, please get in touch so that we could advise you what classes we would suggest.

  • How do I audition for a scholarship?

If you are successful in your audition and accept your place on the course, you will be invited back to audition for the full scholarships. Scholarship Recall Auditions take place in June.
