Performing Arts and Exam Season

It’s getting to that stressful time of year where the pressure is on for a handful of our students as their lives are consumed by textbooks and revision flash cards. Whether it be GCSE’s or A-Levels, the intense nature of exam periods can feel incredibly overwhelming. Despite this, it is now more than ever that students should be looking after themselves to ensure the optimum amount of success.

We know that for a lot of our students, attending classes at D&B has proved to be valuable for multiple reasons- whether they’re yearning to pursue a career in the performing arts world or they come to classes weekly to have some fun, there is no denying the positive impact that performing arts has on students to allow them to let off some steam and encourage both creativity and confidence. Possessing these attributes can help to empower students to push through even the toughest of exams, giving them resilience, perseverance, and determination.

Having this creative outlet allows students to explore new ideas, be innovative and push boundaries. This is a great skill for those taking creative subjects in Design Technology, Art or even when putting pen to paper in English Language or Literature.

Dancing in particular promotes a healthy lifestyle due to the nature of the art form; increasing stamina, flexibility, cardiovascular performance as well as building strength. It also demands discipline and focus, which are vital elements to have when coming into the exam season. In addition, exercise is a great stress reliever! Allocating time to something enjoyable shouldn’t have to feel guilt inducing or punishable, but should be encouraged and is vital to student welfare when under immense pressure. Often, having breaks can help to increase productivity levels and retain information better.

At D&B we fully support all our students in their academic endeavours. We acknowledge the importance of gaining credible results and we want to encourage our students to be successful in their daily schooling life. We would like to offer as much support to our students as possible throughout this time, and we’d be happy to have a chat with them if they feel like they needed any extra support. We will be offering our meeting room out to book for year 11’s, 12’s and 13’s if they wanted to revise inbetween their classes with us. This space is generally quiet and we’re sure will provide some solitude for students who need some tranquility for their studies. Alternatively, as we break for the Easter holidays, it does mean that we will have availability in our studios if any students currently taking their exams would like to book the space as a chance to unwind.

This can be arranged by contacting one of the theatre school members either on 02086988880 or via email on: info@dandbtheatreschool.co.uk. Please do ensure that prior contact with the office staff has been made regarding booking studio space so that we can accommodate everyone, and also note that this is only open to D&B students of years 11, 12 and 13.

We would like to wish all students every success this exam period and please know that we are routing for them!
